Meet the team – Angie Kelly, Assistant Facilities Manager

There are not many people with as many strings to their bow as Angie Kelly.

Over the course of the past five years her enthusiasm to learn new skills and take on a challenge has seen her progress to centre manager to cover maternity leave, before being appointed as assistant facilities manager for both Acklam Green and its sister facility the Resource Centre which she is responsible for running.

Day to day Angie is responsible for managing everything from bookings to finances and maintenance to health and safety at the Resource Centre. She has also been instrumental in its strategic growth, increasing the number of bookings at the centre by seeking new opportunities, improving efficiencies and using her creative flair to enhance the business centre environment to create a versatile facility that appeals to businesses and community groups alike.

“I enjoy being hands-on so have relished the opportunity to make improvements at the Resource Centre. Part of that has involved enhancing some of the physical aspects of the centre to make it more business-like, while continuing to make the community groups who run activities here every week continue to feel at home. It’s a great facility with a fantastic team running it but I’m always looking for ways we can improve and new opportunities to exploit,” said Angie.

In addition to her Resource Centre remit, Angie is responsible for Actes’ 10 residential properties located in central Middlesbrough and has carved a niche as the organisation’s housing specialist. Her role includes advertising the properties, arranging viewings, managing tenancies, dealing with maintenance issues and project managing repairs.  She has also put new policies and procedures in place, including creating a tenant handbook.

She has studied for an NVQ Level 2 in housing and property management to improve her knowledge of the sector which she adds to a list of on-the-job training including NVQs in Business and Admin and Customer Service.

“I really enjoy the challenges of the housing aspect of my role. I’ve become a one-stop-shop for everything relating to the properties and am pleased to have been given the opportunity to develop this expertise as it’s an area I find really interesting,” added Angie.

As manager of the Resource Centre she lives up to the centre’s name and applies a resourceful approach in each and every task.

“I enjoy problem solving and challenging myself to learn new skills. I’ll always try to resolve an issue myself before getting anybody else involved. I thrive on being on the go!”
